How did the self- assessment grid assist in assessing a venture opportunity you may be interested in?
Wow that was a lot of A's and S's. To be honest I've forgotten all the literary techniques I learnt in high school so thats this weeks challenge- figure out if it is assonance, alliteration or consonance, or something I've completely forgotten.
Hellooooo!
Here's the data I actually got from the grid:
What do I want to achieve?
- Find and live my passion while making a difference
Why?
To fulfil my obligation to success
My accountabilities
I am accountable for
Every single decision I make in my life. I am accountable for everything in my life, everything that happens to me, every situation I find myself in, my finances, fitness, health, professional life, relationships, happiness, mentality, mobility- EVERYTHING. I am accountable for.
My Vision, My Values
The future I want
Create a future where I can support myself, my family and the people I care about and make an impact on other people. I don’t want to be held down by anyone or anything. I want to be able to afford anything I want and need, I want to be fulfilled and health and full of vitality.
My Beliefs about Change
Change happens because
People, places and the world keep growing, and as we grow, we change. Change takes time and can be extremely rough but it can be manageable and the best experience if approached with the proper mindset and outlook.
I have weak ties with
My local neighbourhood and community, the entrepreneur community and local influencers
I have strong ties with
My high school
My gym and the coaches and people there
My best friend who lives in Brighton
My family- all over the world and local
Issues and Challenges
What bothers me?
Overweight kids and the state of our mindsets as a society and lack of accountability within people, and the fact that people just don’t know any better/ aren’t motivated to change
Lack of accountability
My Approach when I start something new
It’s an opportunity to learn something new and a challenge to overcome
I’ll usually do some research on it if applicable, ask questions to find out more about the upcoming task. I like to see lots of other examples of similar things or people doing it to try and make sure I’ve got all the steps right, I need to work on just giving it a go then learning and improving from there.
My Capacities and Resources
I can easily
Write
Laugh
Work in a team
Get along with people
Make ideas and plans
Learn
I can’t easily
Finish project and plans that I fabricate in my head
Decide which idea to start
Do artistic things
The grid actually helped a lot. It let me really get into my mind and self-reflect, which isn’t something that happens often. It let me identify potential areas where an opportunity may arise, then marry separate capabilities, connections and interests together in a way so that they complement each other nicely. For example, my skills in writing and communication, my love of meeting new people, my values of honesty and the environment in my boxing gym. It was tough to try and condense my intent into one or two sentences, but this forced me to be concise and creative. I really just want to help to transform people’s lives through my love of self-development, sport and the pursuit of one’s full potential.
It’s an exercise that I feel people should do more, it reveals the positives or negatives in one’s life or mindset. Areas such as how we approach new things, what we are accountable for, our beliefs about change. These aspects of our lives usually the result of our upbringing and the various experiences we have had throughout our lives, unconscious attitudes and preconceptions that we live and believe just out of habit. This exercise forced me to consciously evaluate my decisions, how I think and how I live. I feel this awareness is most of the journey towards becoming an entrepreneur, because once we get the right attitudes and mindset, those benefits can be applied to any situation, any opportunity. Skills can always be learned, but the mindset is what makes the magic happen. This awareness is what impressed me about Jack Bloomfield.
If we look at these ‘soft’ areas/ skills
- Approach to something new
- Beliefs about change
- Values
- My accountabilities
If all of these are aligned towards a growth mindset that’s accountable for the things around us, then half the battle towards success in business and indeed personal life is already won. Separating the areas we aren’t very good at was useful as well. Some things were tough to admit that I can’t do very well (that’s pride kicking in), but this awareness will allow me to know what skills I need to find in team mates and partners in projects in the future.
Thanks for reading!! See you next time. Until then, keep moving forward.
