Wk. 1d: Banging Songs and App Development

Updated: Jun 18, 2019

Helloooooo!

It's 3:28pm, the sun is shining down through the window (much appreciated after the recent wind and rain) and my brain is struggling to function after training at 5:30 this morning followed by a day of college homework, but lets do this!

Today we will be looking at a couple of applications that I use regularly but could possibly improve.

Deputy- a workforce scheduling and rostering software used for one of my part time jobs at a Go-karting track

3 ways it can be improved

Use a calendar for the unavailability's section so I can see the future weeks in the context of the days around the ones I am not available (at the moment the days I am unavailable just come up in a list)

On the website version- creating a more spaced out, organised employee roster calendar rather than squishing them all together. The software I use for my job at Jamberoo Rec. Park has a much better example of this

Clearer layout on the website/ more streamlined

Being able to look into the future on a calendar to see exactly when you are rostered on- rather than just a list on a blank page for both rostered shifts and unavailability’s

Connect to Google calendars or other notification systems so that you do not have to manually enter it yourself

Could possibly make money if made really streamlined and user friendly, more so than employment hero, companies could buy the rights to use it or could design it to be integrated with a system like Google and into calendars and reminders

Boxing Development App

3 Ways to improve

  1. Include more techniques like slips, kicks, pivots and defence movements, foot defence, trunk defence and head defence rather than just attacking/ offensive movements

  2. Include little tips of advice that you can only get from a coach- like a little library of files the user can access to read about mindset tips, tips for different ranges, preparation tips, different types of workout plans and routines

  3. Have a library of videos of professionals and amateurs doing different attacks/ defences- like my coach has in his gym, so you can go on and see each one being done properly in a fight to know how you should be working on it

Could any of these present the opportunity for a new venture?

I'm not too sure to be honest, the rostering application has a couple of strong competitors and the boxing application at the moment is quite a niche market but with proper design and substantial investment it could become a worthwhile/ really polished application with a lot of great features for boxers. The university skill sharing application I talked about in my first blog is my most exciting and open option that I see at the moment, feel free to let me know if you see anything else :)

See you next week! Until then, keep moving forward.

Something Small

The mood that your favourite songs put you in

The inspiration that blossoms

The confidence that flows

The moment of pure connection to that moment in time

And that moment only.
